If you want her to grow confident in herself, encourage her to speak up to you when she has any problems. Don't be overprotective as that's just making her unsure of herself. However, don't let her loose. Get to know her friends, but let them mind their own business. Tell her you'll be there whenever she needs you. Spend a lot of time with her--yet let her have some time of her own, too. Building trust like this is not only good for your relationship but is also good for your daughter's growth.
